Story

The Ramini! This one actually has a nice history involved in my journey with ceramics. This shape I made in a pottery class I took in 2018, and because I didn’t have money, I didn’t fire it or pay for the extra hours to trim it so I took it home. I thought the shape was cute, and I used the untrimmed and unfired version for 3 years with some small dried flowers. When I started working in a porcelain production company I asked if I could finally fire this piece, I did still without trimming! And then I made a positive plaster mold and trimmed the plaster to get a perfect bottom. Then I started slip-casting these at work and using them as glaze experiments for my independent projects, yet I was selling these as mini vases. Which made them sell VERY slowly, so I stopped producing them for some years. Until last year, someone in a market said “Is that a candle-holder?” and I was like well let’s see if a candle fits inside. And. It. Fit. Like. A. GLOVE! After I started selling them as candleholders they completely sold out and so quickly. So I decided this year to bring them back into the mix of my ceramics, but with more updated glaze techniques that are similar to my today’s style of ceramics.

This Laura is glazed with the Everything Blue glaze – which is a bunch of glazes that I was not using anymore and I dumped them into a big bucket that is now labeled “Everything Blue” I dinf it completely beautiful and I hope you do too.

The Material:

This piece is crafted from wild clay I foraged in Kufstein, a stunning region nestled in the Tirolean Alps. The clay fires at lower temperatures (950°C-1050°C), characteristic of the mineral-rich soils found throughout this part of Austria.

To create a workable clay body while preserving the wild clay’s authentic character, I blended 60% Kufstein wild clay with 40% porcelain. This combination maintains the unique properties and personality of the foraged material while ensuring the piece has the strength and stability needed for functional use, and increases the firing temperature to stoneware temperatures.

The entire piece is made from this clay mixture, not just a surface treatment. Every curve and texture carries the essence of the Tirolean landscape within it, bringing the raw, earthy beauty of Kufstein directly into your hands.

Each piece is a collaboration between the earth and my craft: wild, authentic, and utterly unique.
