Story

 

The Shape:

This is the Eliana, this was the start of me trying out what I can do in the studio with the molds that I already have.

As I have mentioned before, I decided to stop producing mugs or any type of tableware starting 2024, one of the reasons was that I lost the sense of exploring and playing that I love from making ceramics.

Instead of throwing out all of my mug plaster-molds, I decided to start experimenting and see what new things I can make with the molds that I already have (and worked very hard to make). The Eliana, is two tumblers pasted together to create this spaceship-like vase. I am loving it! I hope you do too

 

The Material:

 

This piece is crafted from wild clay I foraged in Kufstein, a stunning region nestled in the Tirolean Alps. The clay fires at lower temperatures (950°C-1050°C), characteristic of the mineral-rich soils found throughout this part of Austria.

To create a workable clay body while preserving the wild clay’s authentic character, I blended 60% Kufstein wild clay with 40% porcelain. This combination maintains the unique properties and personality of the foraged material while ensuring the piece has the strength and stability needed for functional use, and increases the firing temperature to stoneware temperatures.

The entire piece is made from this clay mixture, not just a surface treatment. Every curve and texture carries the essence of the Tirolean landscape within it, bringing the raw, earthy beauty of Kufstein directly into your hands.

Each piece is a collaboration between the earth and my craft: wild, authentic, and utterly unique.
