Story

This is the smallest of the Dalmatas (see last picture in the gallery for reference)

“Dalmata” is Spanish for “Dalmatian Dogs” is the name I adopted for this design because the first glaze I tried had lots of dots. The body of this item is the same shape as one of the very first things that I threw on the wheel. I still have that pot of course! When I was learning moldmaking I decided to make a bold of all the things I had done before on the wheel – at that time I think I had made about 4 or 5 things on the wheel -. I really enjoyed how this one particularly turned out. I just thought the size was a bit off until I added a handle. And then it all made sense!

Out of complete coincidence, the fluid capacity is the same as the cappuccino cups that are used in restaurants and cafés. The handle of the Dalmata is the result of my impatient self in the studio when I was starting. I tried to make a perfect circle, I really did. However, it was not the moment for me to be able to make a perfect circle. And this wobbly one came out instead. Somehow it adds some extra quirky spice to the Dalmata. Don’t you think?

After making the first one, I decided to keep the quirky not-so-round & not-so-perfect circle as a handle. It makes me so incredibly happy that this particular pot is also your favorite. After a while, I took the silhouette of this pot and made a smaller version which is “Dalmata S” and then an even smaller version “Dalmata XS”
