The Material:

 

This vase was dipped in Wild Clay from Tuscany, Italy.

In September 2025 I went on an art residency in Italy, Austria, and Poland. In Italy I found beautiful terracotta clay in the rural area in which we were staying. I, of course, took some home. The terracotta reacts differently when fired hotter than its normal terracotta temperature. And you can see the reaction here. The high iron content makes the clay bubble, making it look like lava. It is a beautiful texture and a reminder of what happens when we do things differently than expected. It is relatively smooth to the touch and also shiny, as if it were a glaze.

  • It is recommended to wash this piece with a little bit of dish soap and warm water.
  • This item is watertight.
